Sylvia Bustillos

Director - Advancing in the Profession/ Improving Your Teaching

Sylvia Bustillos is a graduate of New Mexico State and The University of Texas at Austin.  She has taught in California, Texas, Virginia, and New Mexico; in diverse schools from private, to the low SES we experience here in Las Cruces.  She was Phi Theta Kappa at UT and she has been nominated for “Life Changer” award.  Until recently, Sylvia helped develop professional training for her school, and worked on curriculum guides and scaffolding for Language Arts for LCPS. Having taught on both coasts and in between, Sylvia knows there are great teachers everywhere, and amazing students who just need a chance to learn and flourish.

Pamela Cort

Director - Sustaining the Profession

Mrs. Cort is entering her thirtieth year as an educator.
•She is currently teaching French and working as an AES Facilitator at Las Cruces High School.
Mrs. Cort was selected the 2012 LCPS Teacher of the year, the 2013 New Mexico Teacher of the Year and the 2015 NM Foreign Language Teacher of the Year
She states, “I want to be a part of the movement to create PD from local educators to help motivate and sustain our awesome educator force.”

Courtney Degler

Director - Building a Positive Educational Culture and Climate

​Courtney Degler is in her eleventh year of teaching. She started off her teaching career as a special education teacher. Over the last four years, she has taught 1st  thru 3rd grade. She is a graduate of New Mexico State University, receiving her Bachelor in Science in General and Special education. She also received her Master of Arts in Special Education (2014) and Educational leadership (2019). She is passionate about providing engaging and relevant professional development for teachers. In 2018, along with two other colleagues, hosted the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teachers and Teaching of NM conference for 100+ teachers in Las Cruces, NM. Outside of teaching, she is a director of Camp New Amigos, a summer camp for children with Autism. She also participates in various professional development opportunities within the LCPS district as well as at the state level.

David Morales

Executive Director – Educator Leadership and Learning lab

•Mr. Morales is entering his fifteenth year as an educator. 
He teaches ENLACE at Mayfield High School and is also piloting a teacher coach position with the Las Cruces Public Schools.
Mr. Morales was selected the 2015 LCPS Teacher of the Year, the 2016 NM Teacher of the Year, and the 2017 NEA-NM Award for Teaching Excellence Recipient.
Mr. Morales is excited to lead this new initiative and bring quality, predominantly teacher led, professional learning opportunities to educators.
